| The market in Leather Lane provides some of the best buys in clothes, toiletries, food, electrical goods, CD's and videos… but not much leather except one or two shoe and bag stalls. There are also wide range of inexpensive café’s, bars and other food outlets to suit all tastes and pockets. The market has served this part of London with typical market bargains for over 300 years.
| Apparently, in the 13th century the street was called Le Vrunelane which was possibly the name of a local merchant but in the 14th century it became Loverone Lane, then to Liver Lane and finally to the Leather Lane it is known as today. Curiously Leather Lane Market is next door to Hatton Garden which has long been the home of London's jewellery trade and in particular; diamonds. This area (and some of the diamonds!) featured in the Guy Ritchie film ‘Snatch’. The market tends to be open from about 9am Monday to Friday, slightly later that usual markets and starts to really get going from about 10am; it start to wind down from 2.30pm. Where else can you pick-up a new dress, shoes, handbag AND diamonds to set it all off!
